Welcome to the "Goofy Guy Off World Disney Blog". I call myself a "Goofy Guy" because Goofy is my favorite of the "Fab 5" Disney characters. As you can tell from the picture above Goofy and I are very close. Well at least for about a minute during my time in Dinoland at the Animal Kingdom on my 50th birthday trip to Walt Disney World last September we were.
With this being my first post I guess I should explain why I started a Disney Blog. Actually there are a couple of reasons. First, I wanted to be able to express my views and opinions about the things that go on in the Disney universe in a place where people also interested in Disney could to go to read it anytime they want to. But hen they went to that place wouldn't have to search through posts on other things going on in my life to find those about Disney.
Second, I wanted relieve the readers of my RHFactors blog the burden of having to deal with reading the posts of someone who is, at times, a little obsessive, about Disney. Believe it or not there are some people who have a only a passing interest or are not interested at all in Walt Disney World or the lastest animated feature release into theaters. They have other important things going on...like a real life. I know it's difficult to think that we live in a world where that's true but it is.
Now, I included the "Off World" in the blog title because I am an "off worlder." Much to my dismay the majority of my life has been spent outside of Walt Disney World. Out of my 50 years and 6 months only 11 days have been spent actually in Walt Disney World. That's about 0.06% of my life. That percentage is not very likely to increase until the end of 2012 at the earliest.
So I figured if I am going to have a blog devoted to my interests in all things Disney I'd better focus on what takes place, not in Florida, but where I live in Kentucky. "Off world" if you will. That way I'll have a whole lot more source material and experiences to draw from.
So there you have my reasons for creating this blog. What you're going to get in future posts are my reactions to news and changes that come out of Walt Disney World; my opinions on the subjects I hear discussed on the 5 Disney podcasts I listen to each week; and any experiences I have that have to do with Disney. Believe me that's going to be plenty of source material.
But for now let me borrow from Walt Disney's most famous speech; his remarks at the dedication ceremonies of Disneyland in 1955 and use them for a dedication of my own:
To all who come to this happy place; welcome. The Goofy Guy Off World Disney is my blog but you're welcome to read it anytime you want. Here I'll relive fond memories of past Disney World experiences and savor the challenge of planning and financng my next. I begin this blog with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all who wish they could spend more of their days in "The World.”
